MURPHY, N.C. (Sept. 29) Johnny Chastain and the Ashley HomeSores of Murphy team headed to Cleveland Speedway Saturday night. They were beset by a number of mechanical problems that turned the night into a nightmare.
Chastain was running third in the second heat on the tricky third mile clay oval when the power steering hose let loose sending the Randall Twiggs owned Monte Carlo into the pits. After starting way back in the feature Chastain had worked his way to seventh with 20 laps of the 30 lap event in the books when disaster struck again. This time it was the J Bar that broke which resulted in a flat tire and another early exit to the pits.
“Early in the season we had some mechanical problems and we got them cured and up until the last couple of races we had little or no problems,” said Chastain. “In two out of the last three races the mechanical gremlins have come back to haunt us.”
Although the problems at Cleveland knocked them out for the night they were not enough to knock them out of this Thursday nights special at Tri-County Race Track.
“Randall (Twiggs) will have the car ready to go on Thursday night for the Tarheel 50 at Tri-County Race Track. If we have anything left after that we might go to Rome on Friday night and Dixie on Saturday night,” concluded Chastain.
Johnny, Blondes Motorsports and Twiggs Racing would like to thank all of the great sponsors that allow him to compete and win in dirt racing’s top level. Among them are: Ashley Furniture HomeStore of Murphy, Blue Ridge Pawn, Ferris & Joan Brown, 007 H.A. Rogers, Scotts Performance Bodies, GRT Chassis, C.J. Rayburn Chassis and Pro-Power Racing Engines. And a special thanks to family, friends and fans for all their support.
